Did you guys know that the most recent version of sharks have fins that are kinda leg like and they like to walk up onto land?
no way i must have missed an update!
The Epaulette shark is only about 9 million years old as a species, making it the most recent branch in the shark family. And it is slowly but surely evolving into a land animal
LAND SHARK!
LAND SHARK!
WHATCHA GONNA DO WHEN HE COMES FOR YOU?!?!
I will give him a kiss on the top of his little head
this whole oceangate submarine fiasco has actually led to a lot of interesting talks and debates about the grey area of human empathy vs the inclination to recoil at the bizarre behaviors of the ultra wealthy and how people struggle with both ideas and is actually very interesting to watch play out in different types of people
like this whole disaster is not some neatly packaged black and white situation and it’s normal to feel both empathy for human life and anger or disgust for how difference in wealth truly divides the lives that we live in this world
wow tumblr really loves piracy huh. this didn’t break 100 on any other platform, but got 10k notes in less than 24 hours here. yo ho tumblrinas.
Piracy 🤝 Physical Media 🤝 Libraries
Physical media has two hands 😌
As Charles Stross said, we used to have a word for people who collected media and organized it and made it available to everyone for free. We called them “Librarians”.
Pirates and Librarians and Archivists aren’t different types of people, they’re different sides of the same coin. Pirate if you have to, Archive if it’s at risk, Library…ize? If you can.
okay the lack of a verb for “Library” slightly ruins the metaphor. But the point is: Librarians make sure everyone can access it. Archivists make sure it will always exist. Pirates make sure it can be gotten for free, without limitations. We need all these roles at different times, and they all work together.
Remember, if you’ve seen Nosferatu, the super influential silent horror film, it’s because of piracy. All the “legal” copies were destroyed. Archivists made sure the pirated copies lasted. And Librarians made sure you could easily watch a copy.
Oh my god Chloe you’re right and you should say it
Fun fact: Victor Gruen, the “inventor” of the modern shopping mall, wanted his malls to be full of apartments, schools, medical facilities, and indoor parks in addition to the stores, so people could live, work, and shop under one roof. This never happened and instead all the space was used for stores, something that he hated.
It’s not just a case of ‘hey it would be easy to repurpose all this space’, malls were originally designed to be living centers and it wouldn’t take that much tweaking to bring them back to it.
we don’t talk abt how stressful buying new glasses frames is. ur shopping for your whole personality there. life on the line. do or die. all for two pieces of glass and some sticks
